Work Area 3 – Scaling (up, out, deep) of IAPs through supporting activities

As part of LIVENET’s mission to strengthen agricultural knowledge and innovation systems across Europe, a dedicated work area is focused on scaling innovative advisory practices (IAPs), led by EV ILVO. This effort is structured through three interconnected work packages—WP6, WP7, and WP8—each building on the other to ensure that promising advisory approaches can be effectively adapted and expanded across diverse national contexts.

WP6 lays the foundation by developing a conceptual and evaluation framework for scaling. Drawing on scientific and grey literature, the framework identifies key methods and activities—such as training, demonstrations, and workshops—that support effective scaling. This draft framework is then validated through interviews and focus groups with experienced project partners, ensuring it is both practical and grounded in real-world expertise.

Building on this, WP7 initiates the first round of scaling activities. National Network Leads (NNLs) select IAPs aligned with their national priorities and co-design tailored scaling strategies. These are implemented across 11 countries, with continuous support and peer exchange to refine approaches based on on-the-ground experiences.

Finally, WP8 evaluates the first round and launches a second, more ambitious scaling phase. This round includes both core and twinned countries, expanding the reach and diversity of the scaling efforts. Lessons learned are synthesized into good practices and recommendations, presented in an accessible, narrative format to inspire and guide future advisory innovation.

These work packages form a robust, iterative process that not only scales innovation but also embeds learning and adaptation at every step—ensuring that advisory services across Europe are equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
