Building a strong and impactful project network in the Netherlands has been both a rewarding and challenging journey. One of the key challenges has been bringing together professionals from different organisations and backgrounds, each with their own perspectives, priorities and levels of experience. Aligning expectations and creating a shared focus—particularly on a complex topic such as emission reduction in dairy farming—requires time, trust and continuous engagement.
At the same time, this diversity is exactly what makes the network so valuable. By combining the expertise of ZLTO and Lely (part of CEMA) we have created a dynamic learning environment with 10 participants where knowledge exchange and collaboration are central. Designing a tailored two-year training programme based on the group’s needs has helped to build ownership and commitment among participants.
Being part of this network offers clear benefits. Participants not only deepen their knowledge on emission reduction in dairy farming, but also strengthen their soft skills—an essential component for effective advisory work. Activities such as the DISC analysis and interactive sessions have enhanced self-awareness and collaboration within the group, their organisations and with farmers.
The practical setup of the meetings—hosted on dairy farms and linked to specific themes—adds significant value. It allows participants to directly connect theory to practice and learn from real-life situations. Moreover, working together on Individual Action Plans (IAPs) has created tangible outcomes and strengthened the sense of progress.
What stands out most is the energy and motivation within the group. It is a committed, enthusiastic and eager-to-learn network. By keeping the group relatively small and focused in this phase, we are able to offer real depth and quality. This strong foundation will be essential as we move into the scaling phase and engage a broader group of advisors and stakeholders.
Overall, being part of this project network means contributing to meaningful change while continuously developing both professionally and personally. The first meetings have already demonstrated the potential—this is just the beginning of a valuable and impactful learning journey.
