In the LiveNet project, particular attention is given to identifying and collecting Innovative Advisory Practices (IAPs). These refer to practical advisory approaches designed to address real challenges in livestock farming and livestock advisory services. An IAP may take the form of a method, tool, service, cooperation model or advisory process that effectively supports farmers, advisors and other stakeholders.
However, collecting IAPs is only one step within the LiveNet project. To assess whether an IAP can be relevant and transferable to another country, region or advisory system, it must be presented, discussed and tested in practice. For this reason, Cross-Visits are a key component of the LiveNet approach.
LiveNet Cross-Visits provide partners and participants with the opportunity to observe selected IAPs in their real context. These visits focus on understanding who is involved, what factors contribute to success, which challenges arise in practice, and what elements could be adapted for use elsewhere. In this way, Cross-Visits support the validation, improvement and wider dissemination of IAPs across the LiveNet network.
Purpose of LiveNet Cross-Visits
The Cross-Visits aim to present Innovative Advisory Practices in real-life settings while encouraging exchange and peer learning between advisors, farmers, researchers, project partners and other relevant actors. They also explore what makes these practices effective, the challenges they face, and their potential for adaptation across different advisory systems.
Rather than being conventional study visits, Cross-Visits are designed as interactive learning and exchange activities. Participants will visit farms, advisory services, organisations and other practical settings connected to the selected IAPs. These visits allow direct engagement with practitioners, enabling participants to ask questions, compare experiences and reflect on how similar approaches could be applied in their own contexts.
Discussion is a central element of each Cross-Visit. Participants will examine what works well, identify constraints and consider the type of support needed for implementation. They will also assess potential barriers to transferring practices to other regions or countries. This structured reflection ensures a deeper understanding of how IAPs can be adapted and further developed.
A Structured Learning Process
Cross-Visits are embedded within a broader learning process. Prior to each visit, participating networks prepare by analysing the selected IAPs in their own national or regional context and identifying key questions. These questions guide the discussions during the visit and help participants compare the showcased practices with their own needs and conditions.
Following each Cross-Visit, the insights gained are shared within participating networks. This process supports continued reflection on the potential adaptation and wider uptake of the practices, strengthening the overall impact of the LiveNet project.
On-field and Online Cross-Visits
Cross-Visits will be organised in both on-field and online formats, depending on the nature of the IAPs, the topic and practical considerations within each regional cluster. On-field visits enable participants to directly observe practices and interact with the people involved, while online sessions allow broader participation across countries and advisory systems.
Who Can Participate
LiveNet Cross-Visits are intended for individuals and organisations involved in livestock advisory services and related fields. Participants may include advisors, farmers, researchers, technology providers, policymakers and other relevant experts.
Participation is facilitated through the EU-wide LiveNet networks established by the project. Each partner has developed National Networks and Associated Networks, bringing together key stakeholders across Europe. While on-field visits typically involve smaller groups to ensure effective interaction, online Cross-Visits will allow wider participation.
Invitations to each Cross-Visit will be shared by the organising partners and promoted through the LiveNet networks, ensuring broad outreach beyond the project consortium.
Timeline and Scale of Cross-Visits
Across the project, LiveNet will organise 30 regional Cross-Visits. Each regional cluster will host three visits: two on-field and one online. In addition, four thematic Cross-Visits will be organised at European level.
These activities will take place between September 2026 and December 2027, structured in three phases: the first round from September to December 2026, the second from January to April 2027, and the third from May to December 2027. Together, these Cross-Visits will foster learning, collaboration and networking across European livestock advisory systems.
All events will be shared here.
