LiveNet National Network Spain Meeting Focuses on Supporting Young Dairy Farmers

The LiveNet National Network Spain meeting took place on 12 March 2026 at the Elikagune building in Azpeitia, in the Basque Country. This fourth meeting of the network brought together representatives from farmers’ unions, associations, cooperatives, as well as public authority and advisory organisations, with a total of 12 participants.

The meeting focused on sharing practical experiences and approaches to support young people entering dairy cattle farming. Technical advisors specialising in livestock farming from organisations including INTIA, the Provincial Council of Álava (Arabako Foru Aldundia), and LURSAIL NEKAZARITZA ZERBITZUAK KOOP. S. (formerly ABERE, LORRA, ABELUR and LURGINTZA, S.L.) presented their ongoing work in this area.

A key element of the discussion was the training and support provided for new entrants in the region of Navarre. Participants explored the initial installation training course, including its digital platform and content. Additional support tools were also presented, such as intermediation services, renewal initiatives and the transferrer directory, which facilitate generational renewal in the livestock sector.

The management of financial support was another central topic of the meeting. Advisors discussed the implementation of aid schemes for initial installation in both Navarre and the Basque Country, as well as investment support measures available to new farmers. These instruments play an important role in reducing entry barriers and enabling the establishment of viable dairy farming businesses.

Participants highlighted the strong exchange of knowledge between regions, noting that different working approaches provided valuable learning opportunities. As this meeting concluded the first series of National Network gatherings, participants agreed to remain in contact and reconvene in a future meeting to continue exchanging views and building on the content discussed.

The meeting also demonstrated positive outcomes in terms of engagement and diversity of perspectives. A steady number of participants has been maintained throughout the series, and the presence of a politician contributed an additional viewpoint that enriched the discussions. At the same time, participants recognised the importance of sustaining interest in future meetings and encouraging greater involvement from policymakers across different regions, given their role in decision-making processes.

The LiveNet National Network Spain meeting provided a valuable platform for exchange between stakeholders working directly with livestock farmers. By sharing experiences and practical solutions, participants contributed to strengthening advisory support systems and improving conditions for young farmers entering the dairy sector.
